Setting the Gold Standard
The Land
T. Paul Bulmahn set out to provide the optimal training environment for elite equine athletes. He developed and transformed the land with Spanish–style architecture with barns crowned with red-tile roofs and cupolas. He hired a trainer noted for the successful training and rehabilitation of graded stakes winners. Together, they designed barns to remain cool even at peak Florida temperatures. The entire farm is optimized for the safety and comfort of the horses.

GoldMark Farm spans 1500 acres. Strategically located are six barns totaling 159 stalls and a separate therapy barn, four enclosed and covered hot walkers, two enclosed and covered round pens, twenty wash racks equipped with hot and cold water, a six-furlong training track, twenty-seven individual paddocks, and ten large pastures. GoldMark Farm is committed to providing unparalleled individualized training and rehabilitation services. These regimens involve therapeutic devices such as the ECB Cold Salt Water Spa, EquiVibe Vibration plates, the Centurion Transpirator, the Centurion Electromagnetic Pulse blanket and foot plate, and the Niagra Massager.
The result? A sophisticated, world-class facility with a reputation for providing superior care and incomparable training services.
About GoldMark Farm
The Environment
At GoldMark Farm, wildlife abounds from whooping cranes and gaggles of wild turkeys to white-tailed deer, frequently seen as the sun rises in the mornings or descends at dusk. The setting for GoldMark Farm is stunning, and, of course, the horses are magnificent.
GoldMark Farm is nestled in north-central Florida’s gently rolling hills and the shade of ancient oak trees. Ocala provides an excellent environment and climate for thoroughbred horses with green, lush grass and rich nutrients nurtured by the Florida sunshine. The geology of Marion County is a limestone foundation called the Ocala Ridge, similar to the limestone formation that underlies Kentucky horse country. The water in the area is noted for its clear, cool spring water streaming from aquifers.
THE GOLDMARK NAME REPRESENTS THE GOLD STANDARD
The Name
Gold is the highest level of achievement awarded at the Olympics. Mark is in honor of Bill Samuels, Maker’s Mark Distillery CEO Emeritus, a respected friend who inspired GoldMark Farm.
The equine introduction to young Paul Bulmahn came from draft horses: Percherons, Belgians, and Shires who worked his neighbor’s land. The Bulmahn family share-cropped a garden with their neighbors, and after the work was done, young Paul chose to spend time with the horses. A bookworm by nature, he devoured everything in the children’s library related to horses. The Black Stallion series by Walter Farley was particularly instrumental in inspiring visions of racehorses pounding down the stretch to the finish line.
Later in life, as part of an Inc.500 program in Louisville, where the oil and gas development company T. Paul Bulmahn founded was being honored for being the 5th fastest-growing company in America, he took a tour of the Maker’s Mark distillery and won a grand prize drawing to attend the 2002 Kentucky Derby. While enjoying the hospitality of Maker’s Mark CEO Bill Samuels and the excitement of watching the gate-to-wire-winner War Emblem, Paul Bulmahn determined to buy land and satisfy his lifetime dream of building a farm suitable for magnificent thoroughbreds.
